SCFIA Fraud Investigators Conference
Riviera Palm Springs Hotel in Palm Springs, CA
On Wednesday, October 4 from 3-5 PM, Vice President Richard Harer will be co-presenting an informational presentation on, Evaluating Documents for Potential Fraud, “Trust but Verify.” As the first line of defense against fraud, the ability to identify red flags of fraud in documents, which are becoming increasingly more sophisticated, is very important in the claims process. This presentation will identify, evaluate and discuss fraud, material misrepresentation, and concealment in the form of documents that are submitted in support of various types of claims.
Southern California Fraud Investigator’s Association (SCFIA) is an organization dedicated to serving fraud investigators and prosecutors from governmental agencies and the private sectors. SCFIA’s membership consists of adjustors, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, attorneys, private investigators, corporate security, loss prevention personnel, and others that combat fraud. SCFIA’s goal is to provide fraud training and networking for our membership.

CAJPA 2017 Fall Conference & Training Seminar: “Recipe for Success”

On Thursday, September 14 from 2-3:15 PM, Vice President Richard Harer will be presenting the topic, “Slips, Trips, & Falls- Fact or Friction.” One of the oldest insurance scams is the slip and fall accident which has been used by individuals and organized groups for decades to rip off businesses and insurance carriers. Slip and falls are the second costliest bodily injury claim – second only to auto collisions. The presentation will discuss the most effective methods of handling suspected fraudulent slip/trip and fall accidents.
The California Association of Joint Powers Authorities (CAJPA) is a statewide association for insurance based risk-sharing pools, which provides continuing education, legislative advocacy and active involvement in regulatory matters on behalf of its joint powers authority members. CAJPA provides a distinct opportunity to network across multiple professional fields.

Claims Conference of Northern California
McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento, CA
On Friday, September 15, from 9-11 AM, Vice President Richard Harer will be co-presenting a course, “Technology Sources for the Modern Day Claims Professional,” which will be exploring various investigative, forensics, and technology sources available for assisting the claims professional in the valuation and adjustment of claims, as well as recognizing and combatting suspected fraudulent claims. Additionally, this presentation will examine the insurance statutes and rules associated with the utilization of technology sources/tools that did not exist over 5 years ago, and how adjusters can utilize these sources and tools in compliance with insurance statutes, privacy law, and other rules.
On September 14, from 10-11 AM, President Peter Schifrin will also be co-presenting a course entitled, “Analyzing a Bodily Injury Claim.” This presentation will focus on practical tips and pitfalls in evaluating bodily injury claims from cradle to grave.
Since 1994, the Claims Conference of Northern California has been a leader in providing continuing education for property & casualty insurance claims professionals. CCNC was established by the joint efforts of local and regional Property & Casualty Insurance Claims Associations.
